Gary, a native of Cincinnati and a graduate of Xavier University, founded Hudepohl & Associates, a boutique executive search firm in 1994. He has over 16 years in search, serves as the firm’s Managing Director, and oversees all aspects of the firm’s strategy, financial performance, operations and practice development for all practice groups.
He has completed more than 500 searches for a wide range of organizations, including Fortune 100 companies, small and mid-cap privately held companies, public pension funds, higher education institutions, and state and local government. His clients include an international restaurant chain, financial institutions, insurance companies, chemical manufacturers, an international mining and drilling services company, small municipal to Top 10 public pension funds, institutional investment advisors, and small private colleges to Big Ten research universities.
Gary has managed searches for positions of CEO; CFO; COO; General Counsel; General Auditor; Chief Information Officer; CISO; Chief Investment Officer; Corporate Controller; VP, Global Engineering; Principal, Institutional Investment Advisor; Corporate Governance Officer; SVP, Human Resources; SVP State & Local Tax, and many other senior executive positions.
He is experienced and recognized for his effectiveness working with CEOs and boards and consulting on a vast range of issues, including organizational design, compensation and performance evaluation systems. Gary is also recognized for his effectiveness working with public sector boards and higher education search committees, for both public and private institutions and for his ability to build consensus with diverse stakeholders.
Prior to founding Hudepohl, he worked for UPS for over 20 years and has broad experience across many staff and operational areas. He served on the Executive Leadership Team of the Upstate New York, Massachusetts, and East New England operating districts, and the Midwest Region. Gary’s experience includes operations, systems implementation, product development, sales, and marketing. He also participated on teams that led the restructuring of operating companies, and corporate special assignments focused on account management, process improvement, and product profitability.
Gary is a member of the National Association of State Retirement Administrators and the International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruitment, a premier organization for executive search professionals.
